This compilation came up in internet conversation today so I thought it would post it. It’s one of those oddities and rarities that is ideal for the blog treatment.
It is from 1989 and contains a number of bands from what I call the post-anarcho milieu. I’ve played four songs from it in a past show. Besides the great CHEAP song (T.V. Smith!) and my favorite WAT TYLER song, the other stand out is the CHUMBAWAMBA track (full title: Song Of The Mother In Debt; Song Of The Hardworking Community Registration Officer; Song Of The Government Minister Who Enjoys His Work; Song Of The Now Determined Mother).
From the CHUMBAWAMBA website:
“A compilation LP on Peasant’s Revolt records, celebrating protest against the Poll Tax - the Chumbawamba song is a Brechtian (!) epic made up of different parts, written as a small theatrical song.”
