Speed Of History

As yet another week went by and I didn’t put together a show I decided I should make a public announcement.

The thrill is gone.  I just can’t seem to get excited about any music right now.  I haven’t heard anything new (or old “new”) that has done it for me in quite some time and have gone back to listening to old favorites.  Since I tried to keep the show fresh and novel I decided it was better to just not do it than rehash much of what I have played for the last few years.

I can’t say if and when I will get back to this.  There are a few shows left that I want to do, an ultimate-rehash anniversary show of what I statistically played the most of, a year end 2000s retrospective and a “best” of 2009.

Hopefully once the summer hits I will get re-energized but I am not promising anything.

I know I posted this before, but I am posting it again because the first time received almost no response.

I’m at three years now doing the show, which absolutely amazes me since I almost gave up after the one year mark.  I want to keep it going, but it gets harder and harder to find the time and energy to keep the show fresh as it goes on.

I am also astounded at the number of people listening to the show, its several hundred weekly at this point, and that number continues to grow.  I know much less are reading the blog, but it is still more than I ever expected.
I would love to fill out the show with any requests, include any guest sets and host other shows as well as publish any content on the blog that I think is fitting.

I just realized this morning that it is Friday already and I have no idea what the hell I am going to play for next weeks show.

I have a few theme show ideas in mind, but they take quite a bit of research to put together and I know I am not going to have the time this weekend. I am sure I will get something together by Sunday, but this last minute stuff is going to happen more and more now that it is summer and the idea of going out and doing things seems much more appealing than sitting in a hot room with headphones on all night.

My numbers have absolutely exploded since I moved the show over to this blog, so I know a number of you are reading this as well as listening. Send any requests to pat@speedofhistory.com or just respond to this post with what you would want to hear and I will try to accommodate you in the coming weeks. Just one song is normally enough for me to put together at least a set, if not more, since so much of what I string together is from free association.

I am also open to letting almost anyone do guest spots, guest shows and even hosting other peoples shows. Again, if any of that is something you would be interested in, get in touch.

Over the next few weeks I will be porting 119 one hour long punk rock radio shows I have done to this site, all of which will still be available for download.  I will be leaving them and the RSS feed hosted at the previous address so I don’t confuse old listeners.

Besides hosting the continuing weekly (most of the time) show, I will be using this as a space to blog about anything relevant that may interest me. While not an expert, I have been listening to this stupid shit for over 20 years now, which easily puts me in to aficionado status.

My show has been fairly well received these last few years, so I decided to follow the ‘write about what you know’ maxim (as well as contributing to internet/opinions/asshole matrix) and actually DO something.
